Protein packed smoothie recipes: Coffee, Matcha, & More!

Upon waking I chug a glass of water, then I like to have a glass of coffee, and some breakfast. When you have a baby who is a little wild one you are lucky if you even get one sip of hot coffee in! It’s just like they know. They see you sit and take a sip of your nice hot coffee, and boom it’s like instant tugging and crying on my leg. This is mom life!

To make my life easier I decided to make coffee based smoothie for breakfast. It is quick to blend up, and I can drink it on the go with a child tugging at my legs. Not only will this smoothie wake you up but it will also keep you full because it is packed with protein, healthy fats, and of course my favorite superfoods. Anytime I can sneak those superfoods into my recipes I am all for it!

The trick when making these smoothies is you want the coffee obviously not hot. If you want a really good strong caffeinated smoothie, you can make a large pitcher of cold brew coffee. I like Starbucks or Mcdonald’s (they have bomb cold brew) they have cold brew filter packs where you can make your own cold brew at home. You can save that for your smoothies or you can just brew up a fresh cup over ice. I have the ninja coffee pot and it gives me an option to brew it over ice so its extra strong to compensate for that ice.

Protein packed strawberry veggie smoothie bowl.

This recipe is another spin on smoothies. This one is made into a bowl. These can be made extra thick and eaten with a spoon. Smoothie bowls can be topped with extra ingredients for an extra crunch such as dried coconut, hemp seeds, nuts, fruit, basically anything that comes to mind! I always like adding protein into my smoothies and smoothie bowls as well because that extra protein helps me feel satisfied. In this smoothie bowl I made it with milk drunk protein powder. It is a protein powder that is made with ingredients for lactating mothers. It has oat powder, brewers yeast, and flax seed, which are all great for milk production. Although it is marketed for lactating mothers anyone can drink it. Men too, and it won’t make you lactate! Just incase you were concerned!

Protein packed green smoothie made with matcha

Mixing my greens in my smoothies is by far the easiest way for me to get my greens in. If you are not a fan of coffee and you want a little energy kick in your smoothie you can give this one a try. This smoothie is made with matcha. If you are not familiar with matcha, it is the entire green tea leaf grounded up. It is more concentrate and therefore has more nutrients and antioxidants. I usually buy my matcha from amazon, it can be difficult to find in a grocery store, unless its a health food store.

Green Protein smoothie with matcha

  • Handful of power greens (spinach, kale, swiss chard)

  • 1/4c blueberries

  • 1/2 banana

  • 1 tbsp almond butter

  • 1 scoop protein (I used chocolate)

  • 1 serving matcha
